Natural Alchemy

Today I’ve been immersing myself in the natural. Gathering some bark, leaves and flowers in the dark from my garden to dye a luscious silk package. This was an exciting opportunity to learn a little about India Flint’s dye and print achemy on cloth and yarn. As the perfect guest she let me cook up the ingredients and you can see here they are ready to unravel and reveal after steeping in the water overnight. The string holding the package together is also dyed and can be used in my weaves. Love it!

Thank you for this great reminder to follow India Flynt’s work. I’ve downloaded her latest book, which is very timely, as I’m dyeing yarn and fibre at the moment. I’ve learned a little about her philosophy over the last few years from spinning friends. I like the fact that she doesn’t use dangerous mordants in her work. Her ongoing observations are interesting as well as informative, aren’t they. It must have been wonderful working with her.
