Lichen underfoot weave

Here’s the results of my afternoon threading followed by the  weaving itself. The silks in the warp really came up well and always benefit from a hard steam pressing as part of the finishing process. The finishing process with textiles is quite different to the ongoing care of the fabric. Some types of finishing may seem anti-caring and rough but has to be done to bring out the features and beauty of the yarns used.

Unfortunately the five metre warp really wasn’t enough for two 1.8 – 2 metres scarves. Six metres will be more like the mark for next time. I tend to like long, flowing fringes so that always takes up more yarn too.

These scarves are particularly nice when tied in different knotty ways because of the way Saori techniques change over the length of the scarf. You can rustle through a complete scarf knot library here.
