Sustainable Warps

Sustainability is everywhere..we’re flooded with it….about the only thing that’s not labelled sustainable is employees.

Unfortunately, I’m one of those dinosaurs who thinks that sustainability probably isn’t about buying new products and throwing out the others to landfill (although I am guilty of this). But more about using what you’re got even if you have to think of new ways to use it.

So greatly encouraged by Amanda I set out to do this with my sad cut-down 9 metre tangled warp. Amanda helped me to separate out several strands and wind them into balls. From there I started to knit a nice scarf…but somehow disaster struck there too so I unravelled everything. I had only the enthusiasm and motivation that Amanda gave me left. I then came across a daisy winder that I had and voila! the perfect use for my bamboo and tencel threads. There’s lots of ideas and daisy loomers out there. I started here. btw. there has recently been some talk about knitting a rectangle, dyeing it,unraveling and using the yarn as weft.

    Thanks Neki
With the knitting idea we could knit a blanket – use it for years then use it as a warp or weft – then it really would be a great dye idea AND sustainable!!
