Adventure June

June and July seem to be busy workshop months. It is quiet in Old Bar and the sun is so warming and nice. My first weekend workshop here in June has concluded and I’m looking forward to the next one on the weekend.

Weekend weavers Sue, Fran and Dianne

Four weavers in the studio this weekend. All such totally different textiles. Sue, who hadn’t woven before, wanted to make a mat, which she did! That was her first day then a wrap scarf the next. You can see that I run a tough work studio. Fran, Jane and Dianne focused on several techniques and you could feel all of their previous experiences and style oozing through the loom process.

Jane’s weave

There is this curious thing to want to see the work that has been woven and rolled up onto the cloth beam. We all seem to have a desire to ‘bookend’ our work with the same colour or style we started the piece with. Not sure what that says about us but it is hard to resist.

I get the privilege of meeting many people and I can see that threads and yarns have a way of linking people both metaphorically and physically. Cloth making and the Saori way of approaching it is so inspiring.

Now onto the next workshop…
