Pics to Picks – Print to Loom

Well here is the images of my bamboo experimentation with more to come. I’ve started with the sampling on the warp and will probably go with the fine bamboo weft which has a silky handle and soft ribbing effect.

I don’t seem to be able to weave white successfully. I know it’s needed and we can’t do without it on the web and in our blank journal books but it’s an unfulfilling colour for me – it has an uncomfortable yearning about it. So into the dyebath all these will go. I’m looking into stencilling with dye or stencil resist if there is such a thing.

Your fabric is beautiful, and I love the soft ribbing!

You can stencil with dye or resists, and you can also silkscreen with them. While I haven’t done it yet, I have purchased some books and videos that show how, especially the silkscreen version, and I have done silkscreen and stenciling on fabric using fabric paints and paintsticks. When you use the dyes for stenciling and silkscreening, they need to be thickened. Depending how much thickener you use they can work better for one process than another, but the thickener will keep the dye from spreading. If you just search the internet for stenciling or painting fabric with dye, I’m sure you’ll come up with lots of informattion from both artists and the dye suppliers.

i love the feel of the photo, bottom far right. those textures and the way you broke up the space! also love reading about how colors affect people – “…it has an uncomfortable yearning about it.” i don’t have that response, but i like knowing that it does that to you and that it will probably inspire you to action 🙂
