The Total Cloth

Another fantastic workshop day with the indefatigable Crossing Threads duo of Kass and Lauren. Today was about the warp. How to warp, using the Kenzo warping system and how to modify the warp for different outcomes.

Crossing Threads have been exploring and extending their weave practice into Saori over the past few months. So they came back to me with a lot of experimental pieces as you can see in the photo.

They are quite exceptional in their approach, as is well established in their current interior work which is commissioned from buyers around the world. They have an easy and very intuitive way with materials and yarns in weaving. It is an expressive, story infused, art approach to the woven textile.

We used the Kenzo system to beam independent warps. We got through two warps each on the day and two different colour infusions on the warps.

I know that they will continue to work with more colour and texture ways in their own studio. I can’t wait to see what developments they come up with. The future of creative weaving is in good hands with enthusiastic and talented weavers and business owners like Crossing Threads.
