Workshop for Kyogle/Casino Weavers

The Kyogle/Casino group was a joy to have in the studio. As they were already established weavers they had a weavers’ eye to their work. Kyogle district is about five hours away and their weekend weaving trip produced wonderful weaves. I hope their time here will trigger an explosion of handwoven textiles when they get home.

Kyogle/Casino Weavers

The weavers normally use a rigid heddle loom for weaving and the Saori loom introduced a separation of the weaving process for them as the feet take over the actual weaving while our hands are freer to work the cloth.

As the group were also spinners their understanding of yarn construction helped them especially with the on-board spindle spinning techniques on the loom.

The more challenging one shuttle, three colour clasped weft was easy for them to do and they jumped at that one! So much potential in what I can see ahead for them to enjoy. Such a great and friendly workshop. Thank you to Mary Ann, Lindy, Glenda and June.
