Easy to Weave, Easy to Stitch

Perhaps this is a post that doesn’t need to be written up. But this little easy garment is one of the most made in Curiousweaver Studio. It’s for when you want a change from a scarf, something quick, something useful and versatile and something that shows off your individual Saori style.

Recently I had correspondence with a woman in Japan who described Saori clothing as ‘comfortable, with a calm atmosphere. What a delightful way of describing the feeling when you wear Saori clothing. It reminds me just how important writers are in describing what I can’t put into words and therefore can’t communicate to others.

This pattern is just one step up from a scarf. Usually about 1.3 metres in length (although some people will need more to create a soft fall). Usually it is made on a 30cm wide warp (in studio) although once again a 40cm wide cloth can be better on some people. In any case, just weave and try it on. One seam is used. Just join one end of the woven length to the side of the other end. Leave the fringes or cut them off.

You can see in the photos above that the type of weave and how long it is will affect the drape and look. A triangle apex is formed where the edges are joined and you can wear that at the back, front or side on the body.

This pattern goes equally well in thicker and very lightweight weaves. One of our favourites that’s for sure. Thank you to all of these photographed models (not myself though) for your generosity in allowing your wonderful faces here!

Quick try-ons to visualise how a cloth will work for this nifty garment. Use safety pins to get an idea of how long it should be for how you like it.
