Japan Stories

First stop Osaka

I think that overall Osaka might be one of my favourite places. It’s taken a little time to get to know but with the help of guides we were able to explore more there.

First was an adventure to a yarn shop – Teyoria. We walked several kms to get there which was good because we went around back streets and by the river. I know that train travel is easy in Japan but walking always appeals more.

Teyoria was a lovely shop. Some very different types of yarns and little samples of knitted and woven works to describe what the yarns are capable of.

Next was Mino Falls. The landscapes in Japan are so totally different to anywhere in Australia. So much water! So much green!

Shitenno-ji Buddhist Temple, Osaka

Our visit to Shitenno-ji temple was wonderful as the guide, Takako, explained that it was the first Buddhist temple. Even though the building had been rebuilt overtime, the atmosphere was very calming and thought provoking. Thank you to Takako and Henry for everything you shared with us.

Of course the main reason to be in Osaka for the start of the Textile tour was Saori no Mori. Kenzo Jo sensei graciously and with humor introduced the group to weaving in the Saori way. This workshop is always a hit with everyone. Who would have known than anyone can weave in their own way…immediately.
