What a fantastic conclusion to the first two day Saori workshop at the Manning Regional Art Gallery. I am so inspired by the partipants enthusiasm and their own intuitive approach to creating weave textile ideas. Starting with a selection of a cone of colour that appealed, each weaver gradually built their own ideas and experimentation of the techniques I introduced.
One of the core ideals of Saori weaving is concerned with working and learning in a group from each other. I made sure this happened with Lemon Polenta cake – That will always work! Also a coffee run to get up to speed.
I hope all the participants enjoyed the workshop as much as I did. That’s the thing about teaching. I feel rather guilty and suspect I may have gained more from the sessions than the participants and charged them for it; getting to know new people, developing a shared passion and bond and seeing new ideas in a rendition of the unique character of every person entwined in their weaves. Thanks to Barbara, Lisa, Helen, Donni, Jayne and Marilyn for such a rewarding two days. Special thanks also to the Gallery staff, Rachael, Jane and Sue, and the FOGS volunteers.
