At times in my studio I just feel so fortunate! How could I have been so lucky to stumble on weaving in my life?
I had a group to the studio, new to weave but experienced in yarn creation and I was totally thrilled and intrigued by their weaves. Each was so different. Each had the character and expressive uniqueness of themselves emblazened on the cloth they were creating. Different colour choices, different approaches to the feel of the weave, different textures, different everything.
One of the weavers, Zenya, was 11 years old and I think this is just about the perfect age to experience textile work as they are very capable and dextrous with their hands and open to new experiences and skills. IMHO, good experiences at that age seem to have a lasting effect on lives. Maybe a new textile designer started here!
