Wind~warp~weave~wear

Getting a wearable is pretty easy in weaving. Dianne is one of my ‘ace’ weavers at the moment and she designed and wound her warp, threaded it all off loom, wound it onto the loom, then wove the cowl plus some extra in only three x 2 hour sessions. Within the warp she wove little starletts giving the cowl a wonderful drape and extra pizzazz. Dianne has a remarkable sense of colour and every project has had entirely different shades and colourways.

There seems to be such an immediacy to getting a warp on the loom with the Saori loom. And although you can still encounter a warp from hell, there is less of a chance. I’d recommend making warps under 5 metres for a start  unless you are very good friends with the yarns and you know they will behave under pressure!

Wind – warp – weave- wear. It’s simple.

I’ve fired up my four shaft kit on my Saori loom this week and looking at the spontaneous double weave. Double weave needs the four shafts and weaves two layers of fabric on top of each other at the same time. What you can do on one layer can always do with more.  More soon…
