Being unplanned, unorganised and just letting your fingers create weave is developing into an enjoyable habit. This saori scarf is probably one of my best weaves…ever. I know that sounds quite a claim but I really love how it has turned out and will get a further completed photo shortly. It is open, airy and has a lovely drape. The weave has lots of surprises and it is certainly something a machine couldn’t think of doing. ( This is one of the Saori aims, to create like a human rather than like a machine!)
As far as technique, I used a bit of leno weave to allow air into it, some stainless steel weft to allow a pleating effect in some areas and a bit of inlay shown.
Now, generally inlay in wool, mohair or something with ‘grunt’ would be advisable here so it would catch into the cloth better. But I found some slippery, shiny, totally unsuitable ribbony yarn and it worked out well. I didn’t measure anything and just laid down the ribbon as I felt like it…in wiggly waggly fashion. This technique really jazzes up a plain weave.
