Weaving on radio – ABC

A great interview with ABC Mid North Coast and Kia Handley on the Morning program. And it’s about WEAVING!  Although I hate caps as shouting, I think it is entirely appropriate in this case. Hands up if you think handweaving and Saori weaving is the most exciting art craft around!  I can see that I will be tweeting in caps next.

Always difficult to listen to my voice and thinking about all of the other much more eloquent sentences I could have conveyed… but there it is.  I don’t think I could have survived many things  that happen in life without my  devotion to handweaving in all of its forms.  Weaving is about being human and the Saori philosophy and approach really locks that down. I know that the word ‘soul’ is completely gone for the most part today, but there is something deep and unexplainable about cloth making.  Something you can’t grab hold of but feel it anyway.  When I was a child we were always told about the soul inside every person, something that was the essence of existence and connected to how we live our lives and treat others. Many childlike discussions were had about where exactly it could be hiding and what it looks like.  I like to think I see a ‘soul’ in others, although it may be in my mind,  in how and what they weave in the studio. Something deep to think about on a cold day – when we’re weaving.
