Slow going. Is it ok?

Slow cushioning

Is it ok to go slow? I’d like to give you permission for such things, at least in the weaving world. But I need to let myself do it first. I’m reading “The Things You Can See Only When You Slow Down” by Haemin Sunim at the moment and perhaps this beautiful little gem initiated the birth of the cushion seen here.

Saori weaving can be fast. You can end up with quite a bit of fabric. You can dislike some of that fabric. So it sits, and sits, until ‘bang’ it looks so good for that project that you just thought of. This is the story of the cushion. A story which started with painting a room…blue.

This is one of the first cloths I wove on the new WX90 loom so the fabric was wider than the normal 60cm maximum width. I over dyed it twice to try and like it more, then it sat. But doesn’t it go with the blue room! Yes! cushion made up in a hurry to use some of the cloth. It is a rather open and organised weave but all good for this project. Some of my customers have woven up the most delicious of cushion projects including with ‘rags’ or sakiori style. Much more exciting than this tame job I’ve woven.

So rewarding to use up handwoven cloth that you originally disliked. Sometimes the ones I like don’t give me the same thrill. Maybe because the disliked one had to overcome such negativity in my thoughts.
