Running with little ones

If you have been reading my blog for any length of time you’ll be familiar with the January family time. So the little ones invade the studio with weaving ideas. Their keenness is infectious!

What is better than a cone of yarn

Even a cone of yarn creates the fervour of something that adults forget…or do you? Can you run around the house with such yarn enthusiasm? I think so.

Lucy is only four and the Piccolo Saori weaving really clicked this time. Four years old is the magic age of weaving. Get your four year old onto it.

At first Lucy need some help mainly to see which row was right to go. But we don’t worry too much about that and she was off and away adding all sorts of ‘treasures’ into each shed. The total uninhibited process really gives you an idea of what is behind the Saori concept. Just pick up something that appeals, or not, and work it into what you are doing, then don’t think about it at all. Of course there is much more to what we do but this process gives a great start.

My 6 year old weaver, Bree, just stepped up to the loom and took off. She was determined to weave me a scarf but not enough was woven this time around. No worries, it will be added to the next time length. I would love to wear a scarf woven by my little granddaughter.

Yes this post is totally gratuitous but I always feel I didn’t give my children enough time weaving so it is nice to be able to give a little more to the next generation. I don’t know, as a mother, I was always so busy with cooking, cleaning, washing, ironing, worrying, fixing, driving, shopping, worrying. Didn’t leave enough time for teaching my daughters the textile things of life. Bad textile mother!
