Real People Weaving

Slowly I’m opening up to real people in the studio! We had a delightful session last week not only weaving on the looms but attempting to solve all of the world’s problems too. Talk about multi tasking.

It seems a little like the wintertime of the virus – enclosed, isolated, restricted – has passed at least for the moment. Above is a photo of work I’ve been doing over the closure and the photo was taken by my photographer niece – Darby Young! The image has an ethereal quality about it that suggests something not of this world but another one. It has certainly captured something of the mood of the time. Not everything was gloomy and some things were great but there was still an air of great fearful uncertainty.

In contrast, the images of weavers now in the studio seem much brighter. My number one studio member, Robyn, has been waiting many months to come back to the studio and today was the day! She waited through Covid restrictions, my broken ankle and other issues but it finally happened. It’s great to have her creative self, intelligence and friendship here again.

Other new Saori weavers enjoyed the session and it’s always good to have locals in the studio.

It’s all a hopeful start up. We’re all so proud to be Australians and being able to work together to save so, so many lives. The pieces of the puzzle have mostly fitted together when we needed it to. I know there have been problems and I don’t overlook those who have lost their loves in this deeply challenging time. On the up side, perhaps we have a lot more going for us than we ever thought possible. Here’s hoping.

Back to weaving.

    Hello Kaz,
It’s wonderful to hear that your regulars and locals can now gather in your studio to enjoy your excellent teaching and support and have a chat and laugh with other weavers. May it continue…

I’ve been weaving many of the cotton/linen fibres I bought from you recently. I’ve incorporated a limited amount of merino but no commercial yarns. The fabric is light and attractive. I’m using as many techniques as I can and I’m pleased with the result.

As yet, I haven’t braved any cut and sew clothing! It will happen eventually!!!!

    Kind regards,
    Brenda
