3 and 4 Colour Clasped Weft Weaves on the Little One

The clasped weft technique is most often seen with two colours in Saori style weaving. See blog post on Clasped Weft.  However it’s a simple thing to use 3 or even 4 colours in the technique. You can then create bold free designs or use the technique to introduce colour subtley and depth. See this excerpt from Peter Collingwood’s Rug Weaving Beyond the Basics. (this is a PDF file and is p32 if it doesn’t go straight to it). These techniques are rhythmical and relaxing once you establish the process, and they have alot of potential for designing on the fly in a relaxing way.

I used the piccolo loom this weekend to show studio guests how it all works. You can see a subtle approach on the right and a sharper colouring on the left.

But how did you do the 3 colors. Your blog only shows two. It takes me a while to grasp as I’m a self taught newbie….

Is there a video on how to use three wefts.

This would make the weft look like jagged vertical stripes instead of the usual horizontal blocks of color. I like this better than clasped weft with just 2 colors. Can’t wait to try it.
